The Lower Swansea Valley Project, established in 1961, was a pioneering post-industrial land reclamation project that cleaned up an area that was branded Britain's worst derelict landscape (John Barr, Derelict Britain, 1969).
2011 marked the 50th anniversary of its official launch on 17 August 1961. LSVP brought a new natural heritage to the valley but post-industrial developments also neglected its industiral heritage.
